Oceans/Pollution

Is air and water pollution really as bad as it is made out to be?

I think the claims of air and water pollution are over-exaggerated. When new legislation was passed to control the problem of air pollution in the 1970's, the amount of pollutants in the air decreased dramatically. Along with the "problem" of air pollution there is also the issue of pollution in the oceans. Although pollution does occur in the oceans from rivers and runoff from land, some suggest that it might be safer to use the oceans for waste disposal rather than using land. Oceans have the ability to assimilate, dilute, neutralize and disperse wastes. And, according to the article, the quality of the planet's air and water is actually improving, not deteriorating.

What are some of your opinions on this issue?

  1. Wow i totally agree. People make such a big deal about it know when it has always been taking place on the earth. It is something that is going to happen. Yes some of the effects are bad. I agree that these problems can be helped and reduced but i do not believe in spending billions of dollars on this when their are so many poor and homeless people all thoughout the world.

  2. I agree with the fact that it is over exaggerated. I always complain about this whenever i see those clothing items or something that are like i'm green! or save the planet! I also dont think that all the people that wera those shirts and what not really even try to make that much of an effort to really change

  3. I am looking forward to reading more of your sources. Based on what I have read, I believe there are way to many upredictable variables in nature to conclusively determine if rising sea levels are a result of human activities. I do think we could confidently say that we have significantly polluted the oceans. I hope to read something about how the ocean's characteristics naturally counteract pollution.

  5. I agree with what I have read and am interested to learn more about this issue. I see a lot of people walking around with save the world and going green bags and so many other appearel. Then there are those people who think that they care about it and really do nothing to help.

  8. Mr. Turton knows what's up. It could definitely be something else that is causing this, but there is absolutely no way to deny that we have trashed our planet. But like Cory said, it will happen no matter what. Ultimately, what we do is only speeding up what the future holds.

  10. This problem has been over-exaggerated just like global warming. But should be considered if it continues to rise.
